Child Therapy
All children experience emotional ups and downs as they grow and mature, but occasionally a child’s response to a stressor may become more severe and subsequently disrupt his/her daily functioning. Often parents can help their child navigate through such difficulties on their own. However, there are special circumstances when outside help with a specialist is warranted.Children are incredibly resilient! It is important for parents to remind themselves of that. If it seems like therapy is appropriate for your child, with a close collaborative relationship between the parents and myself, we will find ways to meet the child’s specific needs. I view the parents as partners in the therapeutic process and I rely on the parents for information regarding behavior, development, habits, etc. as we carefully develop and implement goals and interventions. My experience with working with children has taught me to respect each child’s unique way of viewing and expressing his/her own thoughts and feelings. While some children are more able to express themselves verbally, others may need more symbolic and creative ways to express themselves. I offer a variety of approaches such as sand tray, clay, drawing, or storytelling, that allow the child find his/her own “voice.”
